On senior season, staying busy, and the feeling you keep almost having

The yard sign is up.

Senior season is officially here. It is wonderful. It is a lot. Both are true.

The graduation party is planned. The invitations went out. The cap and gown has been ordered and tried on and photographed. The group chats are buzzing. The calendar is full.

You are in it. Senior season. The final stretch. And it is wonderful and exhausting and proud and busy and somewhere underneath all of that there is a feeling you keep almost having and then not quite getting to before the next thing on the list pulls you forward.

That feeling is patient. It is waiting for you. But it is okay that you are not quite ready for it yet.

You've Been Filling Every Minute. There's a Reason for That.

There is a reason senior season is so busy. Some of it is logistics, there genuinely is a ton to coordinate. But some of it, if you are honest, is that staying in motion keeps you just far enough ahead of the emotions that you don't have to look at it directly.

This is not a criticism. It is not avoidance in any shameful sense. It is your nervous system doing something completely understandable, keeping you functional and present and able to show up for the celebrations that deserve to be celebrated, by not letting you get too far into what is coming until you are ready.

The busyness is protecting you. For now, that is okay.

But it is worth noticing. Worth naming quietly to yourself, even if you don't do anything about it yet.

The emotion you keep almost having

You catch it in the in-between moments.

Driving home from the store alone. Standing in their doorway for a second longer than necessary. Looking at an old photo that came up on your phone. Sitting in the bleachers at the last game or track meet and realizing it is the last one and feeling something move through you that you don't quite have a word for.

It is not exactly sadness. It is not quite fear. It is something more like the awareness of time. The particular feeling of standing inside a moment that is about to become a memory.

You are living in the before. And some part of you knows it.

Why it feels bittersweet instead of just sweet

Because you love them. Completely and without reservation.

And love, real love, does not get to be simple when something is changing. It holds the joy and the ache at the same time. It celebrates and mourns in the same breath. It is proud and it is tender and it is a little bit grief-adjacent even when nothing has actually been lost yet.

The bittersweet is not a sign that something is wrong with you or that you are not handling this well. It is a sign that this matters. That these years mattered. That you were present for something real and your heart knows the difference between that and something ordinary.

You are allowed to feel the sweetness fully. And you are allowed to feel the bitter underneath it without having to explain it to anyone who just wants to talk about how exciting this all is.

You don't have to feel it all right now

Here is what I want you to hear most in this post:

You do not have to stop the busyness right now and sit with all of it. That is not what this moment is asking of you.

This moment is asking you to show up. To be present at the parties and the ceremonies and the dinners. To take the photos and make the memories and let yourself be in it fully.

The feeling will find you when it is ready. It usually does. It tends to arrive in the quiet moments, the ones you cannot schedule or avoid, and it asks for just enough of your attention to be acknowledged.

When it comes, you don't have to be afraid of it. It is not too much. It is not going to break you.

It is just love, doing what love does when it knows something is changing.

For the woman in the middle of all of it

You are doing something hard and beautiful right now.

You are holding joy for them and something tender for yourself at the same time, and you are keeping it together well enough to make sure they feel celebrated, and you are doing all of this while the calendar fills up and the countdown gets louder and the feeling keeps almost arriving.

That is not nothing. That is actually everything.

Keep going. The feeling will wait. And when you are ready for it, it will still be there, and so will you.
